What is there with Aliens: Colonial Marines, the worst game of 2013

Many people remember what hatred “Aliens: Colonial Marines” was awarded at the time of the exit – for the inconsistency of advertising, the final product, for countless bugs, for broken enemies, for graphene – for everything that is possible. For example, I remembered the shots from the console version of the game through the years, where the eggs of strangers exploded into one inconspicuous sprite, and in the sterile room, where a cardboard shootout behind shelters was led, the same cardboard lonely box flew, which proclaims the greatness of Nvidia Physics or like that.

This is now the audience awards the title of «worst video games in history» 10 times a year, whether it is a meager remaster or free to play-katorg, but then it seemed that «aliens: colonial marines» would forever enter history as a standard of low-grade video games. Although the main punishment is, of course, oblivion. Subsequently, the developer found for “Colonial Marines” technical patches the size of a new game, but the game community does not give a second chance to a disgraced project. If this is not «No Man’s Sky», of course.

I have no possibilities to test the original version of 2013, even more so, because I propose to listen to in what form this unfortunate game has reached the present, which is now, and whether it is worth playing «aliens: Colonial Marines» today.

“Colonial Marines” as a result left me a very dual impression, with what the impression, radically changing after a conditional period of time. As this happens usually-at first the video game demonstrates all its best ideas and solutions, intrigues and promises more, after which at some point it rolls into a disappointing despondency, as if the developer himself did not plan that someone would pass his product until the end. However, «Colonial Marines» left me strictly opposite feelings. Until a certain point, “Colonial Marines” was almost disgusting to me, and I passed it without any interest, but, having passed this very rubon and the point of my highest game, contempt, I unexpectedly found for myself, for which it was loved, and went to the end with pleasure already with pleasure. And it seems that all the introductory ones remained as they were, and I played the same “Colonial Marines”, but only as a game it became more than five times more than five. And I can say that it has changed in the game, but I don’t understand why.

We will talk about the plot, about shooting, about everything, but so far I will start with difficulty, because for the perception of the game it turned out to be very important. I don’t know why I did this, but I made a big mistake, deciding to pass a deliberately mediocre shooter in high complexity. There are games where the high complexity is justified by what allows you to more severely experience the reaction, knowledge and skill of the player, to create a new challenge for him, requiring greater dedication and stress, but there are games where the enemies simply become more fat and strong, and as a result, you will rot twice as much as possible. «Colonial Marines», as you can understand, about the second option, and this is not worth it at all.

Aliens who eat the floor of the store and just trample you with their feet, like football fans. The mercenaries «Weyland-Iutani», which already shoot very painfully, but here they have a sharpness sharply and they flash you over the floor of the level. “Colonial Marines”, frankly, is a one -sided post -shooter, a “evening shooter”, the fun of the game in which depends exactly as much as the player is comfortable, in fact, to play. There is nothing here to adequately respond to a challenge increased from the game, and therefore the gameplay turns into an endless patience festival.

And, in general, I endured. Suffered without any satisfaction, because, again, the game is difficult not because it can encourage you to think, use the special opportunities offered by the game – no, the game is difficult because you yourself have chosen it yourself, so get it.

More than ten attempts took me to defend the type that won with the door. In addition to him, there were three people there – I must say, partners are a very useful element of “Colonial Marines” – but there were so many horror stories at the end that I did not see the light of white behind their black skins, not like my brother. Stuffy, otherwise you can’t say. The last time I had already touched this door with my back, throwing all my ammunition in non -unconditional xenomorphs. They even in a narrative sense should not be so strong, it seems just wrong and kills interest in shooting.

Between these exhausting moments there was an ordinary such uninteresting gameplay. What was the problem of local strangers, besides the fact that they are impenetrable? They did not react at all to hits – no impact from the shots, from any weapon. That is, this scum runs at you, you put her in response, from the rifle, from the shotgun – she does not care at all, she does not note your attempts to dilute her. And at the same time, how strong is strong, it causes the deepest rejection of the game. You know these wretched old games, where you need to put twenty headshots in order to lay the enemy – «Colonial Marines» also destroys any attempt for reliability.

What comes from hitting from a shotgun by a toothy handsome man? He throws it? He frowns in pain? Maybe he at least slows down? He is simply covered with green spots, and continues to run without losing speed until you shoot again. As a result, strangers either simply fall to the ground, or explode like a balloon. It should be added to this that despite the mountains of released patches, these are the most shitty strangers that the industry has seen since the first «AVP», or even earlier. Occasionally they jump onto the ceiling, but quickly understand that they are uncomfortable there, and routes of ways in their heads are lost, because xenomorphs quickly jump back and run to the marines already on the ground. They also know how to jump two meters ahead – they run like and how they jump close to you, ignoring the shot from the shotgun, and such a paw of you will get you later.

Oddly enough, but this is not perceived as a disadvantage, even on the contrary-if strangers do not want to portray any life, then someone should. How interesting it is to shoot up with people, the question is ambiguous. On the one hand, these are the very bad enemies from garbage video games in which they need to be planted and planted, and they also do not want to react to hits. On the other hand, there is something pleasant in these stupid corridor shooters, when all your tactics is to go around the box on the left or right, and you and the enemy are waging a certain positional war. Well, a portion of the risk «Colonial Marines» also brings to these fights, since for the successful elimination of the enemy you need to go to the rapprochement and open for a response impact. In an ideal situation, you are trying to fill them faster than they open fire on you. In all these seemingly dull shootings behind the boxes with an adequate level of complexity at some point, their own dynamics, its excitement and stress are unexpectedly gained. Well, or is it my tastes are very specific. But while I have not lowered the level of complexity, shootings caused pain, not pleasure.

It’s time to talk about why I gave up and lowered the difficulty to the «ordinary», which I did not intend to do at all, even though the gameplay seemed uninteresting and a little sadistic. The fact is that at some point the “Colonial Marines”, being not a very competent shooter, decides to make, not a lot of no less, battle with the boss on special conditions. In the basements of the colony «Hadley’s Hope», who did not know about the explosion of some nuclear reactor there, it means that a very strange xenomorph, which the game calls «Raven». This raven is several times more than ordinary strangers and, in theory, is a Praetorian – an elite, but still standard subspecies of xenomorphs, and does not differ in any other unique features. And there would be no shoot him like all others, but the game drives a finger at my face, saying “no, no, no, you won’t kill him, Mr. Rei, you need a special approach”. In the manner of Ripley, a loader has to go into the manner to fight with a raven on his fists. And this is an absolutely disgusting boss file.

Battle with a raven is a great demonstration of why I hate any fights with bosses in video games. It is as single -assured as the nervous. So, there is this raven and there is a crowd of permanent fewer strangers, and while Rei in the loader intends to put the Pretorian in the face, his colleagues must shoot the xenos running on them. The plan is reliable as Ridley Scott’s decisions on the franchise of strangers, which could go wrong?

In theory, your partners should provoke strangers to yourself, but you will crush some with your huge claw, but in reality these bitch children bite you in the flanks and back, and you can’t answer it, because you just turn to the side, being in a loader, it’s like talking about something with a tikto -tickle – just an unbearable task. The raven itself is not such a dangerous opponent as these small boys that run around Ray, gnawing his legs while he controls something there. And the most disgusting thing is that this battle is essentially determined by random. Aliens will run to you or your friends, shoot them or they will eat you uncomfortably – you have no control over what is happening, you either fight with the boss, or try to look around in this wheelchair, who again climbed out of your back there. The battle directly with the raven is also the standard of gamedic mediocrity – Rei must literally give a huge monster in the face, twenty times or like that. What does the battle are built on the principle of “who will hit the first”, and if he will hesitate, well, due to the fact that xenomorphs are already eating your body from all sides, then everything, get. It would be the simplest boss in the history of the video game, if not for the parasites.

The devil knows how many times I tried to go through this episode. Ultimately, the game knocked me out and I abandoned it for a week. Given all the previous impressions – these stupid and impenetrable xenomorphs that are smelling per kilometer of corporate and the general poverty of everything and everything – to return to the «Colonial Marines» there was no longer any reason. But something prompted to try again, but this time I no longer hesitated reduced the difficulty inadequate for this game. And still, from the fifth, only the fence of this big bastard. But at least the fence. But the «veteran» on which I played before, this is only the third difficulty of the four, which the game on the last turns into and think is sickly. It was easier for me «Max Payne 3» on «hardcore» to go than to play in this second -bit console joker on the «Veteran».

I really don’t know how to explain this, but after the disgusting first half and the battle with a raven as its apotheosis «color Marines» unexpectedly transformed into a tolerable and even acceptable video game. It was as if, at the end of such a flawed boss file, a conscience drew a conscience in the developers, and if earlier they had a spit on the quality of the product at all, then starting from that moment they at least tried to do something minimum competent. Maybe the level of complexity in such an extraordinary way converts the game, maybe some deeply broken scripts of behavior, but starting from that moment on the enemies begin to respond to hits. Seriously, in «Colonial Marines», it turns out, it was possible, she just didn’t want to. Weapons began to exert on strangers a stopping effect, those body language finally report that it is unpleasant for them to receive damage. In the game, it turns out, there is a dismemberment, xenomorphs can be shot legs, and there are even some kind of shot to the head, which cuts them out much faster. And before they only exploded like a purulent pustle. This is exactly the same «Colonial Marines», which I played before?

If a decrease in complexity is responsible for the noted changes, then playing «Colonial Marines» is differently contraindicated at the «soldier». Yes, not every stranger begins to obey the new rules, but how much it transforms the game-from the cardboard shooting of the hitboxes, it turned into at least some immersion adventure, where the enemies at least somehow react to you and your actions. But “Colonial Marines” was not limited to this, suddenly the makings of directing, katsen, even interesting moments began to appear here, as when we run along the complex, in the glass of which the Queen of Alien beats the head. Where it was all before? The only director’s moment of the entire previous game was in that absolutely crooked and idiotic stage, where a man with his new roommate blown up a docking gateway.

And yes, in the future, I was surprised to find for myself that I began to like Colonial Marines, I began to get pleasure from the game. At the same time, nothing has changed in the game, the enemies became less stuffy and durable, and began to somehow resonate with a hit on them, a little life on the screen was added, some minimum setting, and lovers began to shout things like «bypass this shelupon». On such a note you can talk about other features of the game. All these countless monochrome computers, engineering premises and sterile corridors with sliding doors are eclecticism and the border between the past past and the alleged future, in its own way, a charming combination of styles that can be found today. Everything related to people and their animation in the game is simply a shame, but in terms of creating the environment «Colonial Marines» it copes very well.

The whole game takes place in about the same scenery as the first two films about strangers. At first, given the technical condition of the game, I found it more likely by parasitism on the series, a fan service, and if the game “USS SULACO” with a ship from the film relates, in fact, only that the torn legs of Bishop are lying near the gateway, then, for example, “Hadley’s Hope” is the best location in the game, where the most successful location is the most successfulDisplay and desolation were displayed.

As, for example, at the disposal of Ray there are four shotgunes who do everything about the same, only cartridges consume different. But there are really useful trunks that are not sinful to even change from case to case – a sniper rifle against people, a machine gun against strangers, a shotgun against everything.

The idea that standard trunks can also be improved much more strange. Moreover, they are pumped not during the plot or for some resources, but for the implementation of the Challenge. And this is not inscribed in the context of the game. He performed a challeng in the spirit of «kill ten cyborgs on one leg» and the opportunity to fasten an enlarged store or a collimator sight to the rifle. Of course, a typical collimator on a retro -futuristic pulse rifle is strangely perceived, but it is really more convenient.

The Colonial Marines had a multiplayer who, today, is naturally dead, but it would be a pity that it would be interesting for me to look at him. The cooperative is also screwed up to the game, but computer allies themselves cope well, and really provide a REA of support, distracting the enemy, or even shooting it without outside assistance. Companions cannot die, which looks somewhat funny in a situation where several strangers gnaw at once, but it is better than if it were led to a restart.

Well, it remains to talk about bugs. Despite the past years, they are here with excess. I already cited the example of strangers who are lost on the ceiling – in open areas, by the way, they behave much more adequate. Fortunately, there are no critical bugs, but the further I walked around the game, the more often the associates refused to follow me, after which they made a warp jump right in front of my nose. Fucking enemies in the doors and walls is also not uncommon for «Colonial Marines». The funniest face is stuck in their own eggs. By the way, Rey is so cool that grabs them with their bare hands at the moment when they try to cling to him.

Incidentally, the game was in the game stealth-countryer episode, naturally ridiculous and broken. After the detonation of the nuclear reactor in the sewer «Hadley’s Hope», not only the raven settled, but also the charred blind xenomorphs, which are now covered with acid blisters and explode when in contact with anything. Literally with anything, because in order to pass them, you need to open the steam valves, and then these degenerates run to explode to the noise of the steam. Well, you should talk about the plot. I will not be able to say much, the game has a lot of plot-the heroes are constantly running somewhere and doing something, but at the same time there are very few significant events. The exposition of the plot is also none – where we are flying, what is happening, why we were attacked, what we will do? It’s good if I watched the film and realized that “USS Sulaco” is the same ship on which Ripley and friends flew at the end of the second film, but it creates only more questions-where are xenomorphs where the “Weyland-Iutani” soldiers are doing here, and if we destroyed “USS Sulaco”, then how we saved Ripley, why the dead on LV-426For six months, nobody was looking for Morpokhov where the Lycevita came from Ripley and so on and so on. You can come to the answer to some questions, but as for the plot as a whole, on the one hand it continues and develops the very story from the film, but on the other hand it is published many times. In addition to the main campaign, «Colonial Marines» has a very decent addition «Interrupted Stasis» for three hours by three hours. At first, it gives a little “alien: isolation” impressions, because we play for a defenseless colonist girl whose ship of Evil Corporations from “Weyland-Iutani” deliberately infected xenomorphs, I don’t know why. There is a very interesting moment from the point of view of the game when the heroine and another man hide from xenomorph in the closet, that protagonist naturally feels along the trail of pheromones, but does not attack, because it is already infected by the embryo of strangers. Which, however, does not prevent xenomorphs from attacking the girl in crowds when she still gets her weapon. On the one hand, a missed opportunity, because changing the role from a fearless marine to a fragile girl at least temporarily it is interesting, but by this moment I had already loved to shoot in the game and passed the proposed additions with pleasure. It could be said that the defenseless colonist kills xenomorphs more successful than any professional military and this breaks down, but damn it with him. The woman even screwed the WanLiners, she shouts to enemies various offensive things like «I will cast you all of you» and the like. Again, why this is not in the original game?

Summing up what can be said? Yes, the game is a major disappointment of his time, and even after a decade, despite all attempts to patch numerous flaws, there are plenty of them here. But is it bad «Colonial Marines»? If you do not know the context around the exit of the game and evaluate it impartially, in the form in which it reached the audience today – no at all. Yes, this is a joker for the evening, still wooden and primitive, but «Colonial Marines» and does not try to be something else, being exactly that the guide to the films about strangers with the possibility of shooting without unnecessary thought. And this is not bad.

At first I hated the game, but after the changes that happened in it, I finished passing with great satisfaction, and DLC came very much to the place, giving more time in the game. If «Colonial Marines» published in the year of release in the current technical condition, it would still be a passing game, at best 6 out of 10, but this does not cancel the fact that the game is interesting, it is undemanding to the player and something is constantly happening in it, the locations are replaced, the plot tension is growing. Well, shooting here is also exciting in your own way, but even think about the complexity above the «soldier» – for an honest challenge and testing for strength not here. For a long time I have not happened to experience such a controversial experience of acquaintance with the video game, but it may not have happened at all. In this sense, «Colonial Marines» is a really unique copy.
